Gospel musician buried finally buried her husband Olakami Apewajoye on Thursday morning in Lang’ata cemetery after months since the late died on April 11 at Kenyatta National Hospital due to complications caused by burn wounds.
The ceremony was not attended by the late’s Nigerian relatives due to restrictions of Covid19,marked the end of another troubling period in the life of Matete.
The late suffered burns caused by fire incident that occurred on March 30 in the couples resident,Gateway Estate Athi river.
Matete who resorted to M-changa to raise an a accumulated 600,000 hospital bill, was initially questioned for the mysterious death of the husband by Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
Before the burial, the Nigerian Embassy in Nairobi had requested the body of Apewajoye to be held until probe into the cause of his death ended.
She insisted that the embassy lacked sufficient reasons to hold the body maintaining th her husband suffered serious burns after he failed to properly light up their unused 6kg gas cylinder.
The autopsy report indicated the body of Apewajoye lacked visible marks of injury or any signs of struggle discrediting initial reports that Matete could have had a hand in his death.
“He died because of burns which were mixed degree burns estimated at 60 percent. In burns, what kills are the complications that arise. In this case, there was sepsis, multiple organs failure and, all that,” said Dr. Johansen Oduorz Chief government pathologist.
