Hailed outside Kakamega county as the BBI mix master and reggae dancer par excellence whenever the BBI bit is played, it was a different story at home for Omwami Ambetsa Oparanya the CoG chairman.
On 25th February during the house opening, 31Mca’s walked out on Oparanya in total defiance.

Led by Hon Faruk Machanja of Idakho South ward, the ward reps drawn mainly from Anc, Ford K and jubilee raised a myriad of issues that put Oparanya on the spot.
Top on their charge sheet were queries gagging members from airing their views on misappropriation of 200M set aside for revamping Mumias Suger co.
- Kenyans should tred carefully to ensure that the ultimate results of BBI report moves the country forward says Musalia
- In Kakamega county, you can’t tell the difference between a normal folk and mcas who were elected by the people to represent them in the County assembly.
- The failure by Nasa co principals Mudavadi, Wetangula and Kalonzo to attend Raila’s swearing in as peoples president has left a huge dent on the political lives of the two politicians.
The ward reps further accused the county administration of diverting a Sh100 million conditional grant given by the World Bank to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital. They said this prompted the bank to slash the grant this year.
“Counties like Bungoma are in good books and bound to benefit more because they dont divert funds unlike our Governor who is diverting money without the bank’s approval”Hon Andati added.
“This financial year, we have received Sh50 million instead of Sh100 million as a conditional grant to support health services since the previous grant was not used for the intended purpose. Bungoma has received Sh200 million in grants for prudently spending their previous allocation,”said Hon Faruk Machanja
According to the World Bank grant rules, the money granted should not be diverted from the intended purpose without the bank’s approval.
Governor Oparanya too was accused of micromanaging the mca’s and those who dont dance to his bit are overlooked.
A member who spoke to us on condition we don’t disclose his identity narrated to us how Oparanya has reduced elected mcas to beggars and for them to obtain any favors they must follow him to BBI rallies for a piece of the coveted “BBI cake.”
“We are disrespected and reduced to sychophants only clapping and dancing even when Oparanya is saying nothing and the music is not playing just for handouts of 10,000 ksh”said he.
