Education cabinet secretary George Magoha has confirmed that the national government has allocated 1.9 billion for the distribution of 622,357 desks to public secondary and primary schools around the country.
Magoha says 15 public and secondary schools will benefit from the desks which will be assembled locally as part of the national governments’ economic stimulus program to support local artisans.
“The government has allocated Shs.1.9billion to produce and distribute desks to 15 public primary and secondary schools in each of the Sub-counties under the Economic Stimulus Programme for Locally Assembled Desks for Schools.” Said Magoha.
County commissioners have been directed by the Principal Secretary,state department of interior, Karanja Kibicho, to help education officials identify local vulnerable carpenters in making the desks.
“You are supposed to help the ministry of education to identify carpenters who are on the edge of being vulnerable groups to be able to be involved in making the desks.” Said Kibicho.
Kibicho further asked the local authorities to ensure that there is integrity and transparency in the project.
